Prof. Martin Thorne, Ph.D.Exterminate entire ant colonies by targeting the hidden queen's lair. Borax-based baits are systemic and reach the nest with the poison. A more natural method, they avoid harsh chemicals and collapse the nest in 10 to 14 days. Get it right!
Borax Bait Systems
- Worker ants carry toxin to queen and brood
- Mix 1 part borax with 3 parts sweet attractant
- Use childproof containers for pet safety
- Colonies collapse within 10-14 days
Diatomaceous Earth Barriers
- Dehydrates worker ants returning to nest
- Apply food-grade powder in thin foundation lines
- Reapply after rain or high humidity
- Disrupts colony food supply chain
Essential Oil Nest Targeting
- Direct application to nest entrances
- Use undiluted tea tree or peppermint oil
- Suffocates ants and disrupts communication
- Repeat treatments every 72 hours
Place your borax baits with precision strategy. Find just the right spots to place your borax bait stations (within 3ft (1m) of visible, active trails). Use peanut butter or syrup as attractants to bait your stations, and your protein- or sugar-ant colonies will come running. Check your baits daily and, if active, refresh them regularly. Every 48 hours is good, but if not, do it sooner. Hazardous to pets (and humans).
Combine methods for accelerated results. Apply diatomaceous earth around foundations, and set borax baits indoors. You can also rely on essential oils near nest entrances. This three-pronged strategy disrupts ant activities on all levels, and you can expect to see a decrease in activity from them within approximately 72 hours.
A simple precaution protects family members. Always store borax in childproof containers. Be sure to wear a mask while applying diatomaceous earth. Store these materials in locked cabinets. Never place baits near pet food or in areas where children play.
Track your progress! Note the reduction in ant activity on a day-to-day basis. Check your bait stations to see if they've been consumed. Watch for scout ants disappearing 10 days later. They aren't coming back, which means the colony is collapsing. Continue treatment for at least 14 days. Your diligence will ultimately pay off.
