To make sure fungal issues do not return, enhance airflow around plants. Place pots at a distance of 18 inches apart. I revived a collection of ferns by putting in a system of oscillating fans. Use a $10 hygrometer to check humidity around unfurling plants. If humidity levels go over 70%, dehumidify immediately to stop fungal growth.
Resistant varieties might make caring for the plant simpler than other options. For example, phlox called 'Defiant' is resistant to powdery mildew, and tomatoes called 'Mountain Merit' are resistant to leaf spot.
