Are popular commercial soils suitable for succulents?

Others lack sufficient mineral grit to drain effectively. You must thoroughly check each type before using it. Proper soil selection prevents root rot and provides appropriate care for healthy growth.
Drainage Performance

Addressing problem soils requires certain methods. For _Miracle-Gro_, use 1:1 ratio of soil to pumice and mix together thoroughly. _Hoffman_ soil has 40% volume of granite grit added to it. Always screen to remove the smaller particles that would contribute to compaction. Check drainage after you amend soils. Water times should measure around 15 seconds.
Correctly use pre-mixed soils. Bonsai Jack is almost instant for most plants. Superfly Bonsai Mix is amazing, and does not change a thing for rare succulents. Still, check your container drainage! Use porous terracotta pots for the best results. You still can overwater with even the best products.
Do not make some choices that commercial soil products appeal to you. Don't use. Don't use straight from the bag until it has been tested. Please avoid using any brand of soil that lists peat moss as its primary ingredient. Check for expiration dates - mixes that have been on the shelf for a long time tend to be compacted. Don't assume price equals quality. Good soil lets your succulents flourish.
